Dan Patrick
Texas Lt. Governor
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick spent eight years in the Texas Senate representing the Houston area. He was first elected lieutenant governor of Texas in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022 by nearly eight hundred thousand votes.
He is a preeminent voice for principled conservative policies in Texas and across America.
As a frequent guest on Fox News, he is seen as an expert on border issues and a fighter for the Second Amendment.
Last year, Lieutenant Governor Patrick stood firm and refused to yield in his fight to get every homeowner a one hundred thousand homestead exemption. He won that fight. Texas homeowners and businesses will get the biggest property tax cut in the history of Texas this year.
On education, he increased teacher pay to the highest levels ever. Last year, he gave retired teachers up to a 7,500 bonus and the first cost of living adjustment in history. He supports Charter schools and has been the leading voice in Texas for parental rights and school choice.
He has ended the teaching of critical race theory in public schools, ended DEI in our Universities, and passed needed reforms on tenure.
On healthcare issues, Lieutenant Governor Patrick has increased funding for mental health care more than any Lieutenant Governor in history and passed legislation this year to add new hospitals and hundreds of beds for those who need mental health care.
In 2020, Patrick opposed excessive lockdowns and mandates in response to COVID-19 and led the way to open Texas before any other state.
In 2021, he passed legislation making it easier to vote and harder to cheat in Texas elections.
After Winter Storm URI, he called for the resignation or firing of the Public Utility Commission and ERCOT Board. All left their positions and have been replaced. He has called for more needed dispatchable power and natural gas to meet our grid needs of the present and future.
Lastly, the lieutenant governor is a leading voice for life. His 2011 legislation, the sonogram bill, is estimated to have saved over 250,000 lives.
He placed ‘In God We Trust’ in the Texas Senate and put ‘Under God’ in our state pledge. He started the largest prison seminary in the world for inmates serving long-term to life sentences. They have graduated over 100 inmates with a full 4-year seminary degree and have hundreds in the program.
Lt. Governor Patrick has been married to his wife Jan, a former schoolteacher, for 48 years. He and Jan have two children, Ryan and Shane, and eight grandchildren.
